It’s Been a Long 12-Month Wait…
To put it mildly, it’s been a long year since we last gathered for HMSA racing. I keep reminding myself how lucky we were to be together on the last weekend before what felt like the entire world shutting down for the COVID-19 pandemic.
So much has changed, and yet, I was given the last 12 months to think about what is really important. I’m abundantly grateful my family has stayed safe and healthy. I’ve kept some sanity by being able to speak and connect with so many friends, yet I miss the ones I have not been fortunate enough to chat with over this long pandemic-induced racing hiatus.
As we approach the first time we are able to gather in 12 long months, I am going to try to focus more on the luxury of being able to race again, in a beautiful part of the world, with our racing friends and family. This time away has allowed me to refocus some of the efforts we make at HMSA each year.
While some local and state ordinances have not yet changed to the point where we can confirm events yet, we have reached out and had some incredible conversations about what could happen over the next six to 18 months. This is going to be an exciting time for HMSA as we look toward a future that could include new facilities and/or race dates.
It’s amazing to think of the places we have raced together over these many years. And now we have more exciting things in the works. These thoughts and conversations about what COULD be are what has helped me weather the storm of stay-at-home orders and event absences.
As of right now, we have just two events confirmed for 2021, as well as the exhibition races for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach — which was moved to September.
If all goes to plan, we will safely gather more than these three events, but as the world seems to be changing on a near-daily basis, we must continue to show great care and patience and make the best decisions possible.
I’m anxiously counting the days until we meet in Monterey, but even more excited about HMSA has in store for you in the future. Here’s hoping everyone continues to stay safe and healthy until we meet again. See you at Laguna Seca!
